Capital Campaign for Outreach into Isolated Areas - Thursday October-08-2009
Location: Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness
In 2010, CCAA will undertake a capital campaign to raise funds for the development of virtual seminars or “webinars” as well as educational media and hard copy collateral materials to support them. This initiative is a necessary component of our program outreach on a national level which is a key expansion objective of CCAA in 2010.
Many people in isolated communities have no access to the kinds of “self-help” programs we take for granted in the urban centres. In addition, professionals that work in isolated communities are often hard-pressed to find the kinds of resources that we offer. This outreach will require an on-site webinar room, equipment and staff to run and promote the program. Media assets, and establishing live, interactive webinars, is a way for CCAA to reach all Canadians and indeed, a global audience.
The webinars and other resources offered via our website will be targeted to reach 3 separate demographic groups:
1. Professionals who need information, resources and training to deal with people whose lives have been touched by abuse. ie clinicians, school boards (teachers) police etc.- anyone that works with victims. Within this section, we will also give professionals training on how to recognize the signs of abuse along with training modules on how to speak with and help those victims. This is especially important for teachers of children, youth and young adults, and police professionals who are dealing with perpetrators that have also been victims.
2. Adults who are dealing with the affects of early abuse and victimization in their lives. It is often difficult for adults to come forward about childhood abuse because they do not associate it with their current struggles. This is true – not only of people that live in isolation geographically, but also those who live in emotional isolation because of their trauma. This part of the site would allow adults to anonymously invest in their own healing until they reach a point where they are willing to seek face-to-face help.
3. Children – we are working to create a child friendly inter-active area of our site that will allow children to find out how to protect themselves and give them a way to disclose their own trauma.
Each of the areas will be designed “login” sensitive and created with the help of clinicians, social workers and other accredited people who are in the know about the issues. Live, interactive webinars will be conducted by those professionals accredited in the field as well.
In order to facilitate this expansion of our outreach capabilities, CCAA must develop a new website with increased capability. The financial goal of our capital campaign for the
entire outreach program and new website is one million dollars.
